ANNVILLE, Pa. (April 28, 2022) – Stevens Institute of Technology men’s tennis senior Marc Feliu was named the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Men’s Tennis Senior Scholar-Athlete, the league office announced Thursday as part of its 2022 Spring Senior Scholar-Athlete Announcement. Feliu will receive his award as part of the MAC’s annual awards luncheon on May 3.
Feliu is the first Stevens men’s tennis student-athlete to earn one of the conference’s highest individual honors. The MAC Senior Scholar-Athletes, which were first recognized in the 2000-01 academic year, are traditionally announced after the completion of each sport season and are given to one senior student-athlete from each sport who exhibits top academic excellence and athletic prowess. The MAC Senior Scholar-Athlete Award is based 50 percent on academics and 50 percent on athletic achievements. The award was established prior to the start of the 2000-01 season.
“Marc’s accomplishments, both on and off the court, and continued growth as a leader in our program, have been so impressive to be a part of,” head coach Steve Gachko said. “I am so proud of how Marc has managed his time to excel at such a high level both within his major and at the top of our lineup throughout his career. This prestigious award is well earned and I wish Marc nothing but continued success in his bright future.”
To date, Marc has totaled 104 victories, with 44 coming in singles play and 60 in doubles during his time on Castle Point. A two-time conference Player of the Year, Feliu turned in a perfect junior campaign, winning all 10 of his singles matches and all 12 of his doubles contests to finish the year 22-0, including a doubles win with partner Aashi Kulakarni in the opening round of the 2021 NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Championship. The 2019 Empire 8 Conference Rookie of the Year, Feliu has earned two all-conference nods and has spent all but 15 of his career matches atop the Ducks’ lineup.
In the classroom, Feliu maintains a 3.83 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in music & technology. A three-time Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete, Feliu was also recognized for his combination of academic and athletic excellence by the league office, when he was named to the Men’s Tennis Academic All-MAC Team in the spring of 2021. Feliu is also an accomplished DJ and music producer and has an internship with NoFace Records. Additionally, Feliu is a co-founder of Muzeamp, which offers marketing and music mentorship services for up & coming artists.
Since joining the MAC for the start of the 2019-20 academic year, Stevens Athletics has totaled 13 Senior Scholar-Athlete Awards. Feliu was one of 11 student-athletes recognized by the conference in today’s announcement.
