Asus’ ROG Flow gaming laptop line gets bigger batteries

The hits from CES 2023 just keep coming. Asus is rolling out a bevy of new hardware announcements for its ROG gaming model, and amid these are refreshed models of its Movement lineup. The Movement X13, X16, and Z13 are all receiving hardware enhancements, which include the most recent processors and cellular GPUs — but perhaps the most notable improvement with just one of these gaming laptops is its bigger battery.

Asus’ Flow line is rather unique amid gaming laptops, sporting 2-in-1 displays and — in the circumstance of the X16 and Z13 — compatibility with an Asus-designed external GPU to boost gaming overall performance. However, the most latest iterations of these laptops endured from abysmal battery everyday living, a little something Asus is attempting to amend with the new models of the X13.

The battery on the Stream X13 is leaping to 75Whr, up from 62Whr on the 2021 design. In critiques from my colleagues, Monica Chin wrote that her “one complaint” about the Flow X13 was its battery life, and Cameron Faulkner warned Z13 prospective buyers not to go any where with no the electricity brick if they are preparing on gaming.

Curiously while, the X16 will still use the exact same 90Whr battery present in the 2021 design, and the newer variation of the Z13 will however use a 56Whr battery. However, it’s value preserving in head that battery general performance in genuine-environment circumstances can vary wildly.

Facts bordering the other components configurations for the new Move lineup are a little bit scarce at the second, but we do know that the X13 Move will use some model of AMD’s R9 processor paired with an Nvidia GPU, and it can be configured with up to 32GB of DDR5 RAM and 2TB of SSD storage. The X16 presents identical requirements but will be configured exclusively with Intel processors.

The Z13, on the other hand, will be restricted to a greatest of 16GB of DDR5 RAM and 1TB of storage. In a natural way, there will be a range of display alternatives out there for the new laptops, but only the X16 will have the solution for a 240Hz exhibit equipped with Asus’ Nebula engineering that provides a peak brightness of up to 1,200 nits.

The new ROG Flow X16 and Z13 will be compatible with Asus’ external GPUs for additional gaming power.

Last pricing and availability for the new Flow laptops have not been announced yet, but for comparison, the 2021 products of the ROG Circulation had configurations commencing at close to $1,300 reaching all the way up to $2,700. All those charges really don’t contain Asus’ external GPU, which represents an further $1,300 investment, but will probably also be offered as section of a bundle with the new configurations.

Correction January 9th, 10:57AM ET: An previously edition of this tale improperly stated that the battery on the 2023 product of the Asus ROG Movement Z13 is rated at 130Whr, it is actually rated at 56Whr, the exact same ability as the 2022 design.
